Happy Weekend!

It's been one those weeks. I'm so busy but still constantly wondering, is it all going to pay off? I'm counting down the moments I can have a happy friday margarita, or two... During these self indulgent pity parties I have for myself, I force myself to think of all the great things I did instead of focusing on all of the stress. I visited an amazing friend and her new baby, I just had a wonderful dinner with my mom, my dog was super excited to see me and did what me and James call her "happy grunt", and tomorrow I get to see my adorable nephew. In the end I always feel grateful for all I have and realize life is just as much about the journey as the destination (said by someone but I have no idea who). Hope you have a great weekend!

Fashion Spotlight {Rose Byrne}

Interior Design is my first love but I have to say I'm a fashion junkie. So I thought I would start a regular feature spotlighting people who's fashion sense I admire. We'll see how it goes! First up, Rose Byrne. Yes, she could stand to gain a few pounds but I really like her delicate look. And her hair, I need to know her secret!

September Vogue

I am so excited- I just got the September issue of Vogue! It's not only jam packed with upcoming fashion trends it has a seriously rad pad featured. The home of Reed and Delphine Krakoff is killer. Sometimes I see a house and I wish I could be inside checking out every detail. Like what's on their coffee table, in their closet, on their kitchen counters? That's how I feel about this home. It's so edgy (brass alligator chair!) and at the same time whimsical (fluffy faux sheep?!).

Drew Barrymore

I am totally in love with this Catherine Malandrino dress Drew Barrymore wore to the "Going the Distance" premiere. She looks AMAZING. I love the looks she's been sporting the past year. I'm still undecided about this new ombre hair trend. It looks great on her but I could see it being a color nightmare if I ever tried it!

Anne Coyle

Besides the home of Oprah producer Ellen Rakieten (featured in Elle Decor), I hadn't seen much work from Chicago based designer Anne Coyle. I'm really impressed by her portfolio. Check out the studio above with the chevron floor, bold but cool! You can see more of her work on her website.

Upper cabinets or no upper cabinets?

I'm currently kitchen obsessed and have been thinking about upper cabinets. Is it better to have windows and forgo uppers or would the sacrifice for storage be too much? This kitchen by Jessica Helgerson is so fabulous and I love how without the uppers the room looks so airy and light.

Dining Table in Kitchen

via Elle Decor

What do we think about dining tables in the kitchen? I'm designing a kitchen for a new home and we had considered this as an option. I think we are leaning towards an island but I'm sorta drawn to the idea of the dining table.

Nathan Turner

Wow, talk about gallery walls! This condo designed by Nathan Turner has done it in every room. It may sound like a lot but I think the results are gorgeous, very bohemian.

Boucle Jacket

I keep seeing everywhere that boucle jackets are going to be a trend in the fall. Then I this at American Eagle for $79, how fast can I get to the mall? I really dig the exposed zipper and the bejewelled shoulders. Too cute to pass up for the price!

Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts seems to like being out of the spotlight. I don't blame her, with three kids, who wants to be chased around by paparazzi? She lives in my hood and many neighbors have told me they have run into her at the park or on abbot kinney. Everyone says she's super nice. I have yet to get a glance. Recently she's done a lot of press for her new movie so we get to see some of her fashion choices. I have to say I'm impressed. She stills looks so young and her figure after three kids, crazy!

Gallery Walls

Although they date back century's ago, there is still something fresh about gallery walls. There are so many options right now-you hang as you may or you can get ledges. The latter offers you the option of moving things around whenever you like. And they great thing is you can use whatever you have- photos, mismatched frames, mirrors of all sizes. Here are some great examples.

Design Star

So I just came across Emily Henderson's blog, The Brass Petal. She's now one of the two finalists on Design Star. We will find out next week who wins! Her blog is so cool because she tells backstory to the episode and why she made the decisions she did. It's an inside look straight from the source.

This is the room that kept her in the game last night. I love the green sofa.

This is her home office area. I like the idea of a big comfy chair to sit and read in.
