Granite

I just went to a slab yard and man was it fun. Row after row of materials found in the earth, it's so amazing. Selecting slab can be a complicated process- you have to keep in mind all the natural attributes of the stone. For instance marble is quite porous but it has a beautiful, one of a kind swirl pattern. Granite on the other hand is less porous- it usually has a speckled pattern. Most recently engineered quartz has become popular. They are approximately 95 percent ground natural quartz with 5 percent polymer resins. Quartz is not porous so it's 99.9% bacteria free. I'm planning on using it in two projects I'm working on. But on this recent trip to the slab yard I saw some amazing granites with a swirl pattern, seriously making me rethink the quartz. I wish I took more pictures!

Happy Friday!

Wow, this week went by so fast. I'm trying to think back on what I did but it feels like a blur. Hmmmm...there were some remeasuring at a job site, drafting work, meeting with cabinet maker and tile shopping. I've been searching high and low for tile options, forcing me to drive to Anaheim and all over the valley. It was worth it- I found out theres a Walker Zanger showroom in Sun Valley and a great tile shop (Porcelanosa) in Anaheim. Plus I found the perfect wood for a project! Every day I feel more confident about my career choice. Yes, even in the midst of this horrible economy and housing market. Maybe I'm crazy. Here are some pictures of a kitchen I designed and some of the materials we have selected so far for the project. Have a great weekend!

Also, to Betsy, I love you and I'm thinking about you!

Daily Inspiration

This vignette is going up on my inspiration board today. I love the soft gray wall color, the chair fabric (I need to tack it down!), the cabinet with brass accents. Massucco Warner Miller are really making a great name for themselves. Bravo ladies!
